Due to the 0.8m Ω internal resistance of sc810 sensor IC, its over-current capability largely depends on the characteristics of the bus or printed circuit board. The line width and thickness of PCB, the number of layers, the existence of grounding and / or power plane, and the specifications of cables inside and outside the current carrying board are all important factors. It also depends on the maximum operating temperature of the application as well as the duration, duty cycle and current pulse number of the over-current. As an example, we have described the temperature rise characteristics of sc810 on sc840 evaluation board. The 2-layer 4-ounce evaluation board is connected to the current source through 2 AWG cables. The temperature rise performance is shown in the table below.
